About the Studio
Elena Rose of Rose Handwovens creates handwoven textiles on a nineteenth century counterbalance floor loom. She works out of her home studio in Medford.
At nine years old, Elena encountered a table loom for the first time at a local summer program called Heldeberg Workshop and discovered a passion for weaving. She continued to take classes at the Workshop each summer through high school and, many years later, returned to teach budding fiber artists in the same program.
In 2021, Elena enrolled in Foundations of Weaving at the Marshfield School of Weaving and realized a love for the scale and complexities of the counterbalance loom as well. Each summer since, she has made a pilgrimage to Vermont to create alongside other artists. During the summer of 2026, Elena will be a guest instructor at the Weaver’s Croft in Vermont, teaching a class on the overshot technique.
In her personal practice, Elena continues to explore weave structures and techniques. Working 100% natural wool and cotton, her inventory includes blankets, scarves, towels, napkins, and decorative wall hangings. Custom commissions are also available.
